Behavior, Attitude, Heart

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit (heart) and soul (attitude) and body (behavior) be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
Dr. Lew Sterrett, the Horse Whisperer, performed his magic at the Central States Fair Grandstand Tuesday evening. He took Cee Heart Major Tyler (the untrained, unbroken colt) on a journey to success! Dr. Lew went through the three phases to accomplish this for both horse and rider:
- Avoidance to Attention
- Reactionary to Response Able
- Selfish to Sacrifice
Dr. Lew Captured the Heart of Major through truth, humility and trust. Dr. Lew said, “The horse’s head represents his behavior, his front shoulders represent his attitude, and his rear-end represents his heart…”
As Coaches of Influence, we should be after the heart of our players. It’s not about their behavior and attitude only, or wins and losses. We’re after a win-win situation. We are about success and signicicance, on and off the field/court of competition.
The Character Matters coaching curriculum is a great tool to help us accomplish success as a team, and significance with our people.
How can we lead more effectively?
How do we measure success? Significance?
Are we more concerned about profit, or about the physical, mental, social and spiritual development of our people?
Lord, help us to fulfill your greatest commandment (to love others like you love them) and your great commission (to teach others your ways) through all our relationships. Amen.
